A Sea of Lime Green

Field trip days at camp are very interesting to me. The parking lot is just brimming with people in lime green camp shirts. 200-300 kids are on their way to Haunted Trails this morning, in bright, lime green shirts. When I went over to say good bye to Jack - I realized they all looked a like. Black, white, brown, they all meld together in those shirts. And can I just say I don't envy a one of those counselors! :-) I get back in my car and breathe a sigh of relief - all the while enjoying the quiet. A school bus ride on a 95* day to watch all these kids and listen to their whining and questions and "look at me"s .

What's crazy: not a one of the counselors acts like it's a big deal at all. I swear they put on a face that screams "I LOVE my job". I've NEVER had a one of them be anything but nice, courteous (as in greeting me FIRST) and helpful. Now, they're all in their late teens - early 20s so God knows they party and probably have some crazy hang overs - but you couldn't EVER tell it. Even when I see them out and about - not at camp. Still very courteous, saying hello to my guys, smiling..... I don't know - they're never going to make it in what this world is becoming. :-)

It's just a great feeling to drop your kids off with people who really act like they care that they're there. Now what they say in the privacy of their own - who cares - they sure do a nice job from this side. Here's to all of you counselors out there who are giving it your all - you ARE noticed!!!
